Borealis

Borealis is an advanced 24-voice choral chamber ensemble that produces a professional level of music performance. The chamber choir programs pieces that reflect the tapestry of identities represented in the Canadian choral community, including women, LGBTQIA+, and BIPOC artists. Borealis also prioritizes new works (composed within the past 10 years), Canadian composers, Maritime premiere performances, and—in line with Choirs for Change’s broader mission—choral pieces which engage themes of social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. Concerts include challenging yet accessible repertoire that invites both singers and audience to champion the ability of choral music to speak to injustice and imagine a more inclusive world.

In 2019, Borealis was the First Place winner in the National Competition for Amateur Choirs hosted by Choral Canada and CBC Music in the category of Contemporary Music.

Borealis performs three to four concerts across Nova Scotia each season, and membership ranges between 20-30 members at any given time. Click here for information on how to audition
