Eastern Horizon Choral Writing Competition
Choirs for Change Association is proud to run a choral writing competition exclusively open to composers from under-represented identities. The first of it's kind in Canada, this competition is free to enter and judged by a panel of choral conductors, community representation, and Eastern Horizon singers.
Shortlisted entries will be performed in the summer each year by the Eastern Horizon Chamber Choir, a high-excellence choir based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. All shortlisted composers receive professional recordings of their works, and the top two finalists receive an additional monetary prize.
In general, entry requirements each year include:
Submissions will be judged on their musical excellence, social dialogue commentary/relevance, and creativity.

- Entries must be new compositions or new arrangements. They must not have been performed before.
- Voicing for at least SATB, up to SSAATTBB
- Between 2-6 minutes in length
- Must be provided in PDF format
- Submissions must be accompanied with responses to posted Applicant Questions
